About Adea.

Adea Guldi is an emerging painter, printmaker, and performance artist. Originally from New York, she moved to California to attend the San Francisco Art Institutes MFA Program.  Her work includes large scale abstraction and figurative works in addition to performances such as "Not for Lack of Better Words." A piece in which "The SCUM Manifesto" by Valerie Solanas was stapled into Guldi's skin paragraph by paragraph.

Guldi's art career started with her attending a month long intensive with a Tibetan Thangka Master in Kathmandu, Nepal. After returning from Nepal, Guldi graduated from Naropa University with a BA in Religion. She took two years off before applying for MFA programs to travel and learn about fine arts. She is also in a band, teaches yoga and meditation, and spends time with her cat, Ketchup.

About the works

The abstract works use's color and abstraction to evoke states of reflection and confrontations with vast states of mind. These boundless mental spaces such as death, God, war and nature are all opportunities for deep meditative reflection which I explore constantly drawing from my background in Buddhism, contemplative prayer, yoga, and meditations. When finished, the paintings act as archives of consciousness and emotion.

The Figurative works are deeply narrative, and often explore allegorical relationships in the mind-body connection. Often playing on classical and Asian arts, the figures range from being very gestural to very realized.

The performance's that Guldi creates are quite complicated and multilayered. They investigate the nature of mind and human connection. Guldi is deeply curious about the nexus of art and protest. Due to the sensitive nature of the performances, video and photo documentation of performances are available by request only.
